Chef Chloe pushed away from her work station, her movements slow and deliberate. The review, now crumpled in her fist, felt like a weight, a physical burden. "Lacking in heart," it had declared. She closed her eyes, the words echoing in her mind.

The restaurant, usually filled with the happy sounds of conversation and clinking glasses, felt quiet, empty. Her shoulders slumped, her body protesting every movement. The heat from the ovens, usually a source of comfort, felt oppressive.

She opened her eyes and looked at her hands, the hands that had brought so much joy to so many people. They felt alien and heavy. She thought of all the work ahead, the hours, the pressure, the relentless pursuit of perfection. The thought made her want to retreat, to hide, to simply disappear.
